Therapeutic Philosophy and Style

I practice experiential psychotherapy, to assist you to reduce suffering and construct a satisfying life.

  • I keep my clients company in any pain they experience, but I never believe that  the pain defines them.
  • In individual therapy, as suffering is reduced, we can then move toward building your life satisfaction.  By discovering and developing greater clarity about your essence and core values, you can use this awareness to guide life choices, often dramatically enhancing life satisfaction.
  • In family therapy, once immediate suffering is reduced, we move toward building the family as a team of connected individuals (yes, this happens frequently with families who have had intense conflict).
  • I love my work.  I am doing exactly what I want to be doing.  Come as you are, and let's see what's necessary.

 What is Experiential Therapy?
I have extensive postdoctoral training in experiential psychotherapy, a form of therapy I use which assists my clients to cast their problems in a new light, and gives them new power to address them.  We will not get lost in endless mentalistic possibilities about what may be going on with you.  Therapy at its best is not an exercise in intellectualism or mere insight/introspection, but a powerful form of contact between two (or more) individuals. In this contact you may come to be increasingly aware of your own authentic voice, and can then learn how to use that voice to build fulfillment.  As you can see, I won't settle for reduced pain.  I want to work together to get you on a path of true personal fulfillment.
